Some of the most popular items that are downloaded from our site at the free PowerPoint review games.

Maybe it is being on our allotment garden and seeing all the wee insects and creepy crawlies that inspired this summery game.

It works in the same manner as the Burger Bar PowerPoint review game. There are two presentation files to download. Once these are saved into the same folder on your computer, you can hop between one and the other using the special ladybug button. One is the “playing board” with the insects hidden beneath the numbered cards. The other is the score board where the bugs are checked off the list.

The teams have to answer your questions to earn the right to choose a number and reveal the tiny bug below. The aim of the game is to collect one each of the 5 creatures . Easier said than done!

Don’t be put off by what appears at first to be a complex PowerPoint. Once you have opened up the file and had a “play” yourself, you will see how easy it is and how much fun it will be for your children.

If you are not used to downloading files over the internet the following steps may be helpful:

1) Make a new folder somewhere on your computer where you will be able to easily find it again. Name it, for example, “Bug_Hunt”.

2) RIGHT-click on one of the links below and when prompted, SAVE it to the folder you have just made.

3) Do the same with the other PowerPoint (.ppt)  file. Remember: You MUST have BOTH these files in the same folder for the game to work properly.

4) To view the game, open up first the file (Bug_Collecting_part1.ppt). Full instructions are on slides 3 and 4. OR, you could open the Word document and read the instructions there.

This free review game is the PowerPoint version of Key to Success or a Mess, which we have made available as a printable game, ideal for small groups, in a previous post.

What is the key to making a success of your life? What is the key to making a mess? By choosing random keys, and reading the scenarios they open up, the kids are encouraged to think about the consequences of their actions.

This game goes really well with any story where the character makes a mess, or is tempted to do something wrong. For example, Joseph showing off ; David not attacking Saul in cave; Abraham getting a son his own way instead of trusting God’s promise, the disciples turning away the children, Peter cutting off the man’s ear, etc.
In schools, the practical and moral message of the scenarios is appreciated very much.

It is essential to download BOTH PowerPoint files and save them to the same folder on your computer. This is because the game “hops” from one presentation to the other and back again, using hyperlinked buttons. It sounds complex but it isn’t really.  Don’t let that put you off trying out this exciting game that we have found to be among the kids’ great favourites .

This free printable game is ideal to help your kids review the story of Joseph and the harvests he stored. Surprise bonus scores are on the back of the sacks – but watch out for the mice! They might destroy what you have gathered in!

This game can be played in a way similar to the Treasure Chest game featured in an earlier post. It is an exciting game which “isn’t over till it’s over” and can sometimes have a surprising outcome!

This review game can be played three ways, according to the age of the children.
For preschoolers it is simply an adding on game – each correct response adds a coin to the treasure chest.
For older children it becomes a game with secret bonus points, and encourages mental arithmetic skills as they add the final scores.
The third way of playing is so exciting  that kids want to play it again and again. Will they amass a huge score with their turn, or will they go “bust”?

Here’s how it is played with the third method.
1. The child who answers correctly receives 50 points for the team. These points are immediately “banked” and cannot be lost.
2. He or she then selects as many coins as they wish. Picking one coin at a time, the value is revealed as it is chosen.
3. At any time they can stop and “bank”, what the score they have in their hand, or they can carry on. But if they choose a FAKE, they go “bust” and lose all the points in their hand from that round. They do not lose the 50 points earned from answering the question.
4. After each turn, be sure to rearrange the coins in a random way, so that the children will not learn where the high scoring coins are!
The teams get the same number of questions and the winner is the team with the highest score at the end.

Useful life applications
To counter-balance any sense of grasping for money, it is useful to spend a few minutes discussing which charities or projects the children would donate the money to, if it were real. Or, how else they might spend it for the benefit of others.

Fast food for kids? Yes, and not one calory or ounce of saturated fat!

In the game, correct answers to  your Bible review questions earn the team a chance to choose a lettered rectangle on a PowerPoint grid.

Once clicked, it reveals one of five items the team needs to collect in order to win the game: a burger, a drink, ketchup, fries and an ice cream sundae.

If the team has already collected the item, then it is covered again, ready for the next team – if they need it, are alert and have remembered where it is! There are three of each item so collecting is not difficult – except when a team is waiting for that one final item to clinch the game!  Many an underdog has come from behind to with this exciting review!

Full instructions are included in the Powerpoint presentation, but for your convenience they are also available in a Word document.

Sail on Sailor – A Fun Scripture Activity for Your Elementary Kids

Scripture Lady writes:

“There is something thrilling about being on a boat.  Whether in a little canoe out on a quiet lake or on a sailboat out in the middle of the ocean, boating is a beautiful way to enjoy God’s creation. 

The Bible has some interesting ship stories.  Here is a list of 9 Bible passages about boats.  You will use them for the following activity:  Genesis 7:1, Exodus 2:3, Jonah 1:3, Luke 5:3, Matthew 13:2, Matthew 8:24, John 6:21, Acts 27:41 and Matthew 4:21-22.

For this idea, I suggest you obtain a kiddie pool filled with water.  Next, if you can, purchase 12 toy plastic boats (your local dollar store will probably have some) and with a permanent marker, number each one with a number from 1 to 12 and set them afloat in the pool.  Now, you will need to create 2 charts – one for your eyes only and the other for all the children to see.  The first chart should be written out as follows: 

1. Genesis 7:1 
2. Exodus 2:3
3. Ship Sunk!
4. Jonah 1:3
5. Ship Sunk!
6. Luke 5:3
7. Matthew 13:2
8. Matthew 8:24
9. John 6:21
10.  Acts 27:41
11.  Ship Sunk!
12.  Matthew 4:21-22

The second chart that the children can see, should contain these 9 different captions:

Noah’s Ark

Moses’ Basket Boat

Jonah’s Ship

James’ and John’s Boat

Peter’s Boat

Parable of the Sower was Told

Jesus calmed the Sea

Jesus Came Here after Walking on Water

Paul’s Shipwreck. 

I actually wrote my on pictures of boats I found on my computer.

To play the game, divide your children into 2 teams.  Have a child from the first team “fish” a boat out of the pool.  He will look at the number on the boat and tell it to you. 

You will look on the first chart and see whether the child will read a verse or whether his ship has sunk. 

If his ship sunk, the play goes to the next team.  If he is to read a verse, he does so from a Bible and then tries to pick the caption that matches the passage he just read.  If successful, he gets 50 points for his team.  The team with the most points wins!  Happy sailing!”

But Catherine and I realized that there are many of you with large groups who might appreciate the game in a PowerPoint presentation. So here it is!

It is in a zipped file and when you extract it you will find a folder with not one but two PowerPoint files ( as well as full instructions for how to play the game). For the game to work flawlessly you need to keep the two files in the same folder on your computer.

Just like the 8-pin bowling game we featured in an earlier blog post, this game is played with 8 pieces per team and two dice.

If a team answered your review question correctly they throw the two dice. The numbers they throw determine which of their animals are “rescued” and come off the board.

Several of the animals pictured are endangered species. Others are pets which are sometimes mistreated. The game gives opportunity to talk about such issues as pet care and wild life.
If you download this you will find full instructions and printable animal pictures in a PDF. All you need to do is laminate the pieces, add your own review questions and supply two dice.

Here is another way of scoring your review quiz. While suiting the Easter theme of new life, this game is enjoyable any time of year. It is very simple , and enjoyed particularly by younger children.

Two hens each stand beside their nest, in which is a clutch of their eggs.  As the teams answer questions correctly, the eggs “hatch” and are replaced by yellow chicks. Which hen can hatch 6 eggs first, to win?

This free downloadable game is in a PDF file, with all the pieces ready for you to print , cut out and laminate. Full instructions are included.
