More about free software

Just after publishing my previous post, I came across another blogger who agrees.
Neil McQueen, over at SundayResources.net writes:

There are GOOD FREE ALTERNATIVES to Microsoft Word 2007 and Microsoft Outlook 2007. And with the new versions of Microsoft Office costing over $200, these free alternatives are much appreciated. They download rather quickly, install easily, and have setup wizards. Their features are very similar to those found in Microsoft products.

Presentation software for free

I have recently set up our new Samsung netbooks and used one very sucessfully to write scripts and give some PowerPoint presentations. But Word is not loaded, and neither is PowerPoint.
Catherine and I are using Open Office, an excellent alternative to the better know programs. Open Office is a free suite of programs which you can download. here’s the blurb…

OpenOffice.org 3 is the leading open-source office software suite for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, graphics, databases and more. It is available in many languages and works on all common computers. It stores all your data in an international open standard format and can also read and write files from other common office software packages. It can be downloaded and used completely free of charge for any purpose.
